History of The Pine Tree Center

The Pine Tree Center, currently managed by Pinelands Alliance’s Pinelands Adventures—a non-profit dedicated to helping people explore and appreciate the Pinelands and its distinctive landscape—has a rich and varied history.

In 2025, Pinelands Alliance acquired the Pine Tree Center from the Boy Scouts of America, who had operated the property since 1992. Before its time with the Scouts, the site served as a Methodist Church camp for underprivileged boys during the 1970s and 80s, developed and managed under the guidance of Rev. Daniel Hullitt. While details about the property prior to the Methodist Church camp are scarce, visitors may still find remnants of ancient cranberry bogs on the grounds, believed to be part of Butterworth’s Bogs—tying back to the very name of the current location.
